CLIA member cruise lines are committed to providing clean and sanitary environments aboard our vessels, and appropriate medical facilities and care for our guests. We work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to maintain ship sanitation, ensuring all health regulations and guidelines are met. Each ship undergoes regular inspections and crew training and maintains frequent communication with the CDC to provide a safe, healthful environment for all passengers at sea. We follow theĀ American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) guidelines for appropriate emergency care and health care maintenance for passengers and crew receiving shipboard medical care.
We convened a Medical Facilities Working Group, which is made up of licensed and experienced shipboard physicians, fleetwide medical directors and consultants. They meet regularly to review cruise ship medical care and any new developments, especially regarding influenza and gastrointestinal illness. In addition, the working group meets with ACEP’s specialists on maritime medicine to discuss augmenting existing standards and guidelines.
